Lehigh County Republican Committee response on South Whitehall Township Commissioner Matthew Mobilio’s call for violence
The Lehigh County Republican Committee is outraged by the call for violence against ordinary citizens, including those living in South Whitehall Township, by South Whitehall Township Commissioner Matthew Mobilio. Having a local elected official call for violence against supporters of a sitting U.S. President by saying they “should be hung” is inexcusable.
I call on my counterpart, Ed Hozza, Chairman of the Lehigh County Democratic Party and Director of Administration for Lehigh County to stand with me in condemning this call for violence against the residents of Lehigh County. I also ask Chairman Hozza to join me in demanding Commissioner Matthew Mobilio’s resignation. No resident of South Whitehall Township or Lehigh County should have to live in fear of their elected officials.
We are also disappointed to see South Whitehall Township Board of Commissioner’s President Christina Morgan, a Republican, refuse to hold Commissioner Mobilio accountable for his words. Commissioner Morgan’s unwillingness to pass judgement, claiming Commissioner Mobilio’s viewpoint was as a private citizen, demonstrates her blindness to the public’s increasing frustration with the double-standard members of government believe they live under.
With all the frustration and anger currently gripping our Nation, we look to our local leaders to be a voice of sanity, not a voice of division and violence. We call on Commissioner Matthew Mobilio to resign from his position effective immediately. We also call on the Lehigh County Democratic Chairman Ed Hozza to take a stand to condemn this violent rhetoric and demand Commissioner Mobilo’s resignation.
